About Me

Like many of you, I'm an educator who is trying to make the shift from teacher to facilitator. My subject is high school science, but I believe the paradigm shift taking place in education is relavent for all subjects. For the past year, I've been on an earnest search for a better way to do things. I've picked up on a hodge podge of new technologies and strategies - many of which I've tried and love, a few of which I've tried and hate, and many of which are yet to come. That's what makes it a journey.

Earlier this year, I was at an event and the speaker made a profound point. We talk about the 21st Century Skills like they are something in the future. We are 14 years into the 21st Century! It's here! Are we preparing our students to think critically? To collaborate? To be creative? To communicate? I want to change my methods to address these needs. For me the vehicle to accomplish this is STEM. I'm fortunate to be at a STEM school that provides me with technology resources and a long enough leash to take risks. Those risks for me this year involve moving towards project based learning. I hope my reflections on that process will be of some benefit to someone else.

Proceed until apprehended!
